About

Multi Modal Mobility is a project to show how multimodal social media data can support destination and place-oriented tourism analysis. The current release focuses on Hong Kong and is designed for tourism businesses, place managers, and destination stakeholders who need a readable view of movement, experience, and place combinations.

What the platform focuses on

The platform is designed to answer: where visitors go, how visitors move, which places anchor those journeys, where experience is stronger or weaker, and which places tend to be experienced together.

Methodology

  • Journeys: one video is treated as one visible journey.
  • Stop: consecutive frames with the same place are collapsed into one stop.
  • Visits: represent place appearances within the journeys.
  • Source markets: refer to the author-region signals available in the current dataset.
  • Movement: movement is based on adjacent stop-to-stop transitions within a journey.
  • Experience: refers to the sentiment inferred from multimodal signals and summarized at stop and journey level.
  • Companion places: places that appear within the same journey, regardless of order.
